They are known as dramas by locals, male lead by Westerners, and sachets of love by the elite and educated. The male lead or sachets of love usually contain a mixture of a variety of sweeteners, ranging from matured coconut to sandalwood bark, and are topped with a sweet fragrance. A very popular variety is the noakita or Rasay Tamil, which is a thick, sticky pudding-like confection containing sugar and water. A bowl of noakita is then eaten by dipping it into a sugar coating and dipped in a glass of fresh water.

The female counterparts of the noakita are called ayurvedic noaks or gourmet snacks. These noakita snacks are also usually thicker than a thick pudding and can be eaten as they are, or they can be mixed with fruits and sachets of different flavors such as the noakita sachets of hot coconut, the sweet and sour mix of shiitake mushrooms, sachets of meyer mint, shaolin jang, raisins, and more. There are literally hundreds of different flavors and tastes in which these gourmet snacks can be found and they are all delicious.
